21 April - 4 May 2022

Textiles

This exhibition showcases the breadth and diversity of the range of skills and disciplines within the Textile department including Print, Tapestry, Natural Dyeing and Printing, Patchwork and Quilting, Stitch, Knit, Machine Knit, Upholstery, Felting, Mosaics, Drawing, Interior Design, upcycling, repurposing, mending and design development.

Alongside encouraging individual student creativity and development we also work collaboratively and partake in collaborations. For example, students on the Advanced Textile Workshop contributed to the Coat of Hopes: A patchwork garment made of embroidered pieces of blanket, created by a diverse range of people along a 500 mile walk from the south coast of England to Scotland carrying stitched remembrances and hopes connected to local landscapes and stories of migration, to COP26 in Glasgow. The coat seeks to build connections between people and communities, to value and carry their voices, and to resonate and belong to everyone

The Jewellery Department at Morley College is delighted to be exhibiting our student work alongside the textile department once again in our biannual series of MADE exhibitions.

The Jewellery section has an outstanding reputation for providing jewellery courses for adults at all levels of learning. We offer full and part time day, evening and weekend courses for the beginner through to professional level in our  fantastically equipped jewellery studio. We provide our students a relaxed and supportive environment in which to learn new skills, develop existing talents or improve their employment opportunities, something we have been doing for over forty years. If you want to learn wax working, soldering, general metalwork fabrication, beading, forging, enamelling, keum- boo, coppersmithing, wood carving, casting, working with acrylics, stone setting, aluminium printing, mould making with silicon rubbers, resin work, laser cutting, polymer clays, design, etching metals and polishing then we have the course for you. You can see our courses here

This MADE group exhibition celebrates the exceptional work of our Textile and Jewellery students and the breadth and diversity of the range of skills and disciplines within the Jewellery and Textile Department. Many of our students have developed work in response to the rich theme of FANTASTICAL BOTANICAL, exploring the importance that plants have in our changing world.

Exhibition runs from 21 April to 4 May, Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday 1pm – 5pm. Private View: Thursday 21st April, 6-8pm
