2023 COLLECTION PROJECT

During spring 2023 the Morley Gallery has run a major project to document and organise the Morley College Permanent Art Collection, led by volunteer Beatrice Bosco and in association with Kings College London. This project, conducted by hasl for the first time conducted a full photographic survey of the collection, standardised documentation and cataloguing practices, and registered recently acquired artworks.

Since 2020 the Art Collection has expanded with the donation of works by Alan Thornhill, Frank Connelly, Tadek Beutlich, Patricia Leigh, Maggi Hambling and Zsuzsi Roboz, significantly expanding its holdings of late twentieth century and early twenty first century British art.

This project has resulted in the development of a professional standard collection database, which can be accessed publicly here:

This is still a work in progress, with much documentation still to be incorporated and areas to be tidied, but it presents, for the first time, a coherent look at the Morley College Permanent Art Collection and the history it embodies.

This project is an important step on the development of collection management policy and procedure, working towards our Arts Council Accreditation application. Updates will follow over the coming months, with the project concluding in the early summer.
