Throughout the Zsuzsi Roboz Scholarship 2021/22 at Morley College, Veronika Neukirch has examined translucent matter and the activating interplay with light, which has led to a new interdisciplinary body of work. Delving into physics, the evolution of human cognition and consciousness, philosophy, accounts of visionary experiences, she asks, why is the interplay of glass and light so mesmerising?

Answers were attempted through diverse processes including glass and ceramic sculpture, poetry, installation and performance. Tapping into the expertise of the numerous specialist tutors, technicians and the scholarship mentors at Morley College, this ‘solo’ exhibition has also ended up involving many revered peers and friends in the form of collaborators.

Additionally, in the interactive immersive multimedia installation ‘Rigid Fluids turn Portal’, the viewer is put in touch with the raw materials of the spectacle and becomes a participant.
