MORLEY GALLERY
THE ABSENCE OF MYTH
Günther Herbst
12 January – 6 February 2023
This exhibition is the culmination of a five-year PhD research programme in association with the University for the Creative Arts. Visualised through a painting and sculpture practice the exhibition considers the inextricable relationship between colonialism and modernism. The research has evolved into a personal journey, supported by evidence and a first-hand lived experience of how European Modernism and its influences were appropriated into the geo-political environment of South Africa.
