Emma Willis

For my final piece, "Forgotten Meanings", I was inspired by my interest in fairy tale literature and how the true origins of these stories are often not known. This got me thinking about nursery rhymes in the present day that have also had their deeper meanings lost within the history of storytelling.
Through research and practicality of building this piece, I have defined my main focus to be on the “Ring a ring a roses” nursery rhyme. I felt the true origin and history of this rhyme to be very relatable to the current pandemic and wanted to play on this by adding a modern abstract feel. I’m hoping that people will look deeper into this piece’s historical background rather than what is displayed on the surface.
I have always been more drawn to building and creating 3D pieces’, whether it be as an installation or as a sculpture, I find the possibilities to create in this form endless as we can use any material we see fit. After this course I will be studying a BA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths where I plan to further develop my skills and learn new ones to get a better understanding of art as a profession.
