Artist’s Statement

The Morley online sculpture course has been inspiring, providing the opportunity for me to experiment with sculptural forms and also to learn about the work of different sculptors.  The wide range of themes has provided a structure and a starting point to explore and expand my sculptural work.

“Hokey Cokey”, prompted me to create a visual narrative using images and video (Lana film), responding to the theme of movement, fragmentation and disorientation.  On a personal level this provided me with some light relief in these uncertain times.

The theme of Journeys took me outside, interacting with nature and the environment.  For example, I collected some of my materials from the South Downs (Flint Casts) and the coast (Castaways).    I combined materials such as wire, wood, recycled copper, ballcocks, plaster, wax, ice and more, creating a range of sculptures in my home, some of which will live outside.
