STOCKWELL CENTRE GALLERY

As part of the upcoming Artists of Morley 2024 celebration this June, we are launching an open competition for student (and recent alumni) artists to apply to participate in an exhibition at the Morley College Stockwell Centre.

This Centre is an integral part of Morley’s community learning programme situated at the heart of the vibrant Stockwell community adjacent to Stockwell Tube Station, and is launching its new Green Hub, a sustainable teaching, work and meeting space for community workshops and learning programmes. This space will feature small exhibition of selected works which connect with the themes of “sustainability”, “community” and “friendship”

We therefore invite you to apply to take part in this longer-term installation, planned to run from July 2024 to March 2025, and share you work with the students and community of the Stockwell Centre as part of its 2024 refurbishment.

Application Guidance

Submissions will close on 24th June 2024, for a planned exhibition installation on 3rd July - selected works will need to be delivered to the Morley Gallery or Stockwell Centre between the 1-2nd July . The exhibition will subsequently hold an opening event on the afternoon of 4th July, to which exhibitors will be invited.

Entrance is restricted to current students or recent alumni from visual and digital arts courses at Morley College.

All works must be suitable for wall mounting - the space is not suitable for smaller portable artworks.

In submitting an artwork, applications should consider the themes described above “sustainability”, “community” and “friendship”. Please indicate in your application how your work matches these themes.

Works must be of non-hazardous materials suitable for long-term display in a community environment - works do not have to be entirely two dimensional, but should not intrude too far into the workshop space. Works larger than 90cm in any direction are less likely to be selected.

Selections will be made jointly by a committee of Stockwell staff with a view to not only recognise quality in design and execution, but also a coherent and impactful engagement with the key themes and the ethos of the Stockwell Centre.

In applying you acknowledge that works are exhibited at the artist’s own risk. All care will be taken to ensure that works are kept safe and in good condition during the exhibition, but should any accidents occur works may be eligible for insurance under Morley College’s art imdemnity.
