Charles Meek

Charles Meek is a figurative artist whose paintings aren’t wholly representational. His subject matter is drawn from people, places, incidents or topics of contemporary interest within his personal sphere, - but also in the mix of styles and media he adopts. These are drawn from artists and movements (Howard Hodgkin, Ben Nicholson, Leon Kossoff, the pointillists, the cubists, the plasticists and elements of op art) as well as individual pictures (Picasso’s ‘Les Demoiselles d'Avignon’, Kossoff's Swimming Pool, Howard Hodgkin's portrait of Mr and Mrs Robyn Denny) which have, in different ways made a strong impression on him.
