Margaret Hyde
My work is a response to landscape. It is a re-imagining, stimulated by what I observe and feel directly through time spent walking and exploring. That experience becomes a point of departure. Ivon Hitchens and Peter Lanyon are among artists whose expressive and lyrical response to landscape speaks to me and has relevance to what I am searching for.
I work mainly in oils. The malleability of oil paint supports the process of layering colour and adjusting the image to arrive at a painterly response.
I aim to capture and tie together often fragmented perspectives, much as the eye scans and focuses on the near, the far and the in-between to gain a sense of the whole. I look for a summation of place.
