Marie Anaba

My initial concept at the start of this collection was to explore life after childbirth, taking into consideration elements of my personal experience. I tried to explore emotions as well as the physical effects of life after childbirth. The use of bulge, rounded shapes and gathering of leather to signify loose or wrinkled skin to drive home the message of the collection is the predominant theme used here. In trying to manipulate the chosen fabrics to mimic the look of aftereffects of childbirth, I used sheer organza, leather and cording.

I burned leather to give it a rough or puffy effect, slashed through leather, gathered leather, and used cording with sheer organza to achieve my concept through the use of semiotics.
