Shoes and Socks

This painting is a portrait of me, just my shoes and socks. I mainly get my socks as hand-me-downs from a friend who gives them to me when they shrink. I like the colours of the socks which attracted me to paint this subject and these are my favourite shoes.

 Stripey Platform Shoes and Abstracts

The image of the platform shoes is from the internet. I was drawn to the stripey-ness of the shoes and socks and the chevrons in the weave of the skirt. Platform shoes remind me of early teenage years in the 70s. My dad took me shoe shopping when I was 12, a rarity as my mum usually took me. He allowed me to buy exactly what I wanted which was a pair of purple and black patent leather shoes with white rubber platforms. I felt a bit self-conscious when I wore them to school and my English teacher commented on them when he saw me wearing them.
