Paul Silver
Sketch for unfinished painting, Paul goes to Tate Britain
This pencil sketch incorporating collage elements was produced following a class visit to Tate Britain and the Print Room. I wanted to include a number of different elements of what I had seen like details from Jasper Johns’ etching - “The Seasons (Summer)” and Picasso’s lithograph “Composition” as well as from the sketches I made there. The painting will be completed after the College studios re-open.
Lockdown Study
This painting is acrylic on canvas. Previously I have only painted with acrylic on paper. This space and the objects within are important to me in pandemic affected times; both pleasure-giving and confining. The sketch contained soaring space in a public arena. Weeks later, we have all been confined in our lockdown spaces. I looked at two paintings online whilst working on this – Van Gogh’s “The Bedroom” and Degas’s “Portrait of Edmond Duranty”.
