Morley Exhibitions has long relied on the support of its volunteer cohort to deliver its exhibition programming, and we are very grateful to volunteers past and present for their dedication and hard work. If you wish to join our volunteers programme please apply via the button at the bottom – there is no minimum requirement in experience or ability, we welcome all enthusiastic and friendly colleagues to join us in developing and sustaining the Morley exhibitions programme.

Volunteering is an exchange, the College and the volunteer each gaining from the experience, building something valuable together. Our volunteers will be invited to perform a range of roles, including exhibition invigilation, public engagement and education, provision of digital resources, archiving, and dedicated project work. However we intend to provide all of our volunteers with opportunities to develop skills and experience for their future career ambitions or personal satisfaction, as well as build relationships and friendships with like-minded supporters of the arts.

There is no required skillset or experience; anyone can volunteer with us who is eager and interested in supporting Morley Exhibition’s mission to provide display and engagement opportunities for our staff, friends, visitors, and our student community, and we welcome volunteers regardless of ability, class, race, or religion, reflective of Morley’s broad community. Volunteers must be over 18, but otherwise there is no restriction by age.

BENEFITS

Though there is no required number of hours for Morley volunteers, those who can commit to a minimum of 25 hours of service over the course of a term will receive a number of perks.

  • Volunteer discount of 75% on one Morley course per term. (Terms and conditions apply and discounts are at the discretion of the Gallery Manager and Morley Student Services).

  • A 10% discount on purchases, including art works, sold through the Morley Gallery shop (limit supply, at the discretion of the Gallery Manager).

  • Attendance at Gallery Private View events.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We maintain a zero tolerance policy on bullying, racism, sexism and sexual harassment. Any incidents should be immediately reported to a member of staff and will be referred to the HR complaints procedure.

To this end, we require volunteers to follow a few simple rules:

  • Always be polite and courteous to colleagues, visitors and exhibitors in all communications.

  • If you have committed to be somewhere, be on time. If you cannot attend or will be late, please communicate this to staff as soon as possible.

  • Be vigilant in protecting the Gallery assets and artworks and ensuring safe use of the space for staff and visitors.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Volunteer skills sessions

Twice a term our curatorial team will be leading volunteer skills sessions. These are free drop in sessions for Morley Gallery volunteers where we will run through the basic skills involved in planning and setting up a Gallery show, with some simple Gallery theory, organisation, preparation and practical mounting skills. The sessions are informal, and take place in the Gallery itself. To attend, simply sign up as a volunteer and come along.

For upcoming skills sessions, contact gallery@morleycollege.ac.uk

Volunteer resources

You can download a volunteer timesheet and a course discount application form here. Volunteers are responsible for maintaining their own timesheets, to be signed off by staff following volunteer service. Course discount sheets should be submitted to the Exhibitions department for sign off before submission to the Human Resources department.
