These pieces started off as exercises to learn about colour and oil paint. 

Empty Box / Gone is in two halves. On the left I wanted to see if I could realistically paint a box (dull, unreflective, cardboard) once the gifts had gone. The right side was a chance to manipulate paint differently and I worked from a photocopy of a photograph taken from a computer screen of some video footage showing a shadow of people cast on the side of the whale they were taking pictures of. 

 Odd collection

Arranging almost random objects on a platform, I made a number of sketches until I was satisfied with the composition. Could I paint the objects as readable from a peculiar perspective, while allowing a drama to unfold between the objects and the onlooker?
