These pieces are from a series of sketches and paintings that I have made based on memories of a family gathering. I have enjoyed looking at Edouard Vuillard and Pierre Bonnard. Particularly paintings of interiors with figures seated around tables. I have tried to capture a sense of intimacy and also a slight mystery and ambiguity as figures appear and disappear in each setting. I have often used the table as a starting point for focussing or anchoring figures and objects.
